  • Appearance: Features large, rounded mophead flower clusters (up to 9 inches) that stand on strong stems above rich green foliage.
  • Size: A compact variety typically reaching 12–18 inches in height and width, making it ideal for small garden borders or containers. Some sources note it may reach up to 36–48 inches in height under ideal conditions.
  • Color Profile: Naturally produces deep pink hues in neutral to alkaline soils (pH 6.0–7.0). Like other big leaf varieties, the color can shift to blue in acidic soils (pH 5.0–5.5).

Care Guide

  • Light: Prefers morning sun and afternoon shade. It does not tolerate intense, direct afternoon sun, which can scorch its leaves.
  • Water: Requires consistently moist, well-drained soil. Water deeply 1–3 times per week, especially during the first growing season.
  • Soil: Thrives in rich, loamy soil high in organic matter. Avoid waterlogged conditions to prevent root rot.
  • Pruning: Since it blooms on old wood (stems from the previous year), prune only immediately after flowering ends in late summer. Avoid pruning in fall, winter, or spring, as this will remove the next season's flower buds.
  • Hardiness: Generally hardy to USDA Zone 5 or 6. In Zone 5, it may require winter protection (like burlap or extra mulch) to prevent bud damage from late frosts.
