Expert Care Guide

  • Light: Requires bright, indirect sunlight. A south-facing window is ideal. Avoid harsh, direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the leaves.
  • Watering: As a succulent, it stores water in its leaves and is highly drought-tolerant. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings—typically every 10 to 14 days.
  • Soil: Use a well-draining succulent or cactus mix. Experts often recommend a 50/50 blend of regular potting soil and perlite or coarse sand.
  • Temperature: Prefers warm indoor environments between 60°F and 85°F. It is extremely sensitive to cold and should be protected from temperatures below 50°F.
  • Reblooming: To trigger new flowers, the plant needs a "rest period" of 14 hours of total darkness each night for at least 6 weeks (often achieved by placing it in a closet in the evening).

Warning: Kalanchoe is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested, causing symptoms ranging from stomach upset to heart palpitations.
