Expert Care Guide
- Sunlight: Requires full sun (at least 6–8 hours daily) for strong stems and vibrant colors.
- Soil: Needs well-draining soil; corms are prone to rot in heavy, soggy ground.
- Planting:
- Plant corms 4 to 6 inches deep with the pointed end facing up.
- Succession Planting: Plant a new batch every 2 weeks from late spring through early July to enjoy continuous blooms all summer.
- Watering: Keep soil consistently moist (about 1 inch of water per week). Drought can result in shorter spikes and smaller flowers.
- Support: Due to their height, 'Tropical Breeze' spikes often require staking to prevent them from toppling in wind or heavy rain.
- Winter Care:
- Hardiness: Perennial in Zones 8–10.
- Colder Climates (Zones 3–7): Corms must be lifted in the fall after the first frost kills the foliage. Cure them in a warm, dry place for 2–3 weeks before storing in a cool (35–45°F), dark location for the winter.
