- Bloom Period: Flowers continuously from midsummer until the first frost in the fall.
- Garden Use: Excellent for back-of-the-border placement, large containers, or as a focal point in pollinator-friendly gardens.
Care and Growing Instructions
- Light: Requires full sun (at least 6–8 hours daily) for strong stems and maximum flower production.
- Soil: Thrives in fertile, well-draining soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0–7.0). Enriching the soil with compost before planting is recommended.
- Planting: Plant tubers horizontally about 3 to 6 inches deep once the soil has warmed to at least 60°F. Space them 18–24 inches apart.
- Watering: Avoid watering immediately after planting until shoots emerge to prevent rot. Once established, water deeply 2–3 times per week, keeping the soil evenly moist but not soggy.
- Maintenance:
- Pinching: When the plant is about 12 inches tall, pinch off the top of the main stem to encourage bushier growth and more blooms.
- Staking: Due to its height and large, heavy blooms, this variety must be staked to prevent stems from snapping in wind or rain.
- Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flowers to promote continuous blooming throughout the season.
- Winter Care: Hardy in USDA zones 8–11. In colder zones (3–7), the tubers must be lifted after the first frost, dried, and stored in a cool, dark, frost-free location for the winter.
