Plant Description

  • Flowers: Features large, upright, feathery plumes in a bright neon-yellow. Unlike some older varieties, the flowers don't fade to a muddy tan as they age; they stay "fresh" looking for the entire season.
  • Foliage: Boasts bright green, lush leaves that provide a clean, high-contrast backdrop for the golden spikes.
  • Size: A compact and well-branched variety, typically growing 12 to 14 inches tall and wide. It doesn't require pinching to stay bushy.
  • Bloom Period: Flowers continuously from late spring until the first frost.

Expert Care Guide

  • Sunlight: Needs full sun (at least 6–8 hours). It is a "sun worshipper" that thrives in the heat.
  • Soil: Requires well-draining soil. It is very sensitive to "wet feet," so avoid planting in low spots where water pools.
  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Once established, it is moderately drought-tolerant, but the plumes will be smaller if it stays too dry.
    • Pro-Tip: Always water at the base of the plant. Getting the "feathers" wet can make them heavy and prone to rot.
  • Feeding: Use a balanced liquid fertilizer (like 10-10-10) every 2 weeks during the summer to maintain the "fresh" yellow color.
  • Maintenance: While it is "self-cleaning" to an extent, deadheading (removing old plumes) will encourage the plant to put its energy into new, larger spikes.

Pet Safety: This plant is non-toxic to dogs, cats, and horses.
