  • Appearance: Produces large, 5-inch blossoms in a rich apricot-orange to warm brandy-tan color. The flowers are high-centered and double, usually featuring 25–30 petals.
  • Fragrance: It has a mild, sweet tea fragrance that is pleasant but not as overpowering as 'Mister Lincoln'.
  • Plant Habit: Grows as an upright, bushy shrub typically reaching 4–6 feet tall and 2–3 feet wide.
  • Foliage: Noted for its exceptionally large, mahogany-green leaves that are semi-glossy and provide a beautiful contrast to the apricot petals.

Care Instructions

  • Light: Requires full sun (6+ hours). In very hot regions, afternoon shade can help prevent the delicate apricot petals from bleaching or "scorching."
  • Watering: Water deeply at the base. Like most Hybrid Teas, it prefers even moisture; avoid letting the soil dry out completely, which can stress the plant and reduce blooming.
  • Soil: Best grown in loose, loamy soil enriched with organic matter. It prefers a pH between 6.0 and 7.0.
  • Maintenance:
    • Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring. Remove dead or weak wood and cut healthy canes back to about 12–15 inches to promote strong new stems.
    • Feeding: Use a balanced rose food in early spring and after each flush of blooms.
    • Pests/Disease: 'Brandy' is somewhat susceptible to mildew and black spot. Ensure it has excellent air circulation and consider a preventative organic spray in humid climates.
    • Hardiness: Thrives in USDA zones 7–10. In zone 6, it will require significant winter protection (hilling or wrapping).

Design Tip

Because of its warm tones, 'Brandy' looks stunning when planted alongside deep purple perennials like Salvia or Lavender, which make the orange-apricot "pop."
